I have decided to take a break this week in the kitchen and allow the spotlight to shine on a dear friend and fellow foodie. I have known Brandi for just about 10 years and we have been laughing together for just as long. On one of our latest trips to her home in Pittsburgh she honored us with one of her Strawberry Rhubarb Pies. Some folks are nervous about the addition of the latter ingredient, infiltrating the sugary sweetness of the strawberry, but I have good news for you nay-sayers. In 1947 New York State court ruled that rhubarb was used in the U.S. mainly as a fruit, so it shall be considered as such! That’s right, rhubarb is fruit. Feel better? I thought so!

Out last morning in Pittsburgh was met with, of course, food! Here were some of our creations just before we said goodbye. Parting is such sweet sorrow, and fancy s’mores are even sweeter. Continue reading
So this blog is babies first Whole Foods®!
I’ve been an avid watcher of Bravos TVs’ Top Chef and for 8 seasons I’ve seen them super-market-sweep sprint through their respective cities Whole Foods®. I was so excited to see what all this hype was about. I get it, it’s a grocery store … what could be so different? For the most part, there’s not a huge difference. They sell food, you place what you desire into a cart – and they prefer you pay for said items before you leave. Following are highlights of what was above and beyond the typical super market chain in my opinion. So grab a cart and bring along your list while we go shopping at Whole Foods®! Continue reading
There are many things I think of when I think of Pittsburgh. Amazing architecture, bridges, illegal left
turns and now, a hamburger with mozzarella sticks in it. Continue reading
Brandi came up with a wonderful menu for the 2nd night of our stay and allowed us to assist her in the kitchen! This meal was a great way to come together after a full day of shopping and site seeing and really summed up our friendship: Laughter and food! There is nothing more personal to me than sharing food (ok, maybe a few things more personal) and when you get to share your own food with your very best friends, that’s even better! The following photos will never completely y capture the energy of the evening or the swell of my adoration for everyone in the room, but hopefully they convey just how much fun we always have when we are all together!
Ok, enough sap, LET’S SEE THE FOOD! Continue reading
This past weekend Dustin and I had the opportunity to stay with a few friends in Pittsburgh. We had been there before and had a blast. Oh, and we also ate our faces off! I decided I needed to take the blog on the road and take you along on a culinary ride through Pitt! Sit back, relax and try not to drool on your keyboard.
Let’s start our trip to Pittsburgh the way we all start our day – Breakfast! Our tour guides (Richelle, Steve, Brandi and Tim) suggested DeLuca’s Diner which is on “the strip”. Continue reading
